Keirah-Lynn is the first baby born in Presque Isle to be eligible for the Harold Alfond College Challenge. The program, set up by the Maine philanthropist, contributes $500 towards a NextGen College Investing Plan account for every baby born in Maine after January 1, 2009. Alfond established the program before he died to ensure access to higher education for all Maine’s children. The staff at TAMC’s Women & Children’s Health Unit and the Horizons OB/GYN Office helps area families with the application process.
In addition to the $500 grant provided by the Alfond program, The Aroostook Medical Center will contribute $100 to Keirah-Lynn’s NextGen account. The Women’s & Children’s staff also put together a basket for the family which included a baby blanket, diapers, a stuffed animal and a silver spoon engraved with the TAMC logo.
