The County Federal Credit Union recently became part of a new program that offers its approximately 13,000 members an opportunity to receive special savings through GM’s Credit Union member Discount Program and Chrysler’s Credit Union member Cash discounts, as well as access to affordable financing on new vehicle purchases. The new program comes during a challenging economy and the local credit union is pleased to be able to offer this program to members.     The program began as a pilot in several states in the Midwest and because of its success and interest, has been expanded from the pilot states to all 50. This allows 90 million credit union members across the country to join the expanded ‘Invest in America’ program which now encompasses nearly eight thousand credit unions nationwide and makes available m ore than $80 billion in credit union low-cost auto loans for new vehicle purchases.
The County federal Credit Union is committed to the communities it serves and the credit union philosophy of ‘people helping people’. Invest in America” is an example of how the cooperative nature of credit unions benefits the local, state and national economies.
“When the opportunity to participate was provided exclusively to credit unions, we enthusiastically became a part of it,” remarked Ken Hensler, president/CEO of the County Federal Credit Union. “There is no cost to our members or the credit union to participate and it provides our members an opportunity to receive additional discounts on most new GM and Chrysler cars, just for being a credit union members.”
Hensler added, “In addition to these special savings, our members also have access to additional savings and benefits by financing their new auto loan through us. A recent study by Chuck Lawton, a well-respected Maine economist, to determine the financial benefits of Maine Credit Unions, found that on average, our credit union rates on new car loans are lower than other financial institutions, which makes a good deal even better.”
According to the County Federal Credit Union, the ‘Invest in America” programs offer GM suppliers price discounts or Chrysler rebates of $500 or $1,000 on eligible vehicles. Currently, the GM program is scheduled to run through March 31, while the Chrysler program continues through June 30. Both auto makers have indicated that there is a strong likelihood they will be extended further.
