Recently, the Robert Frost Memorial Library applied for and received a grant from the Aroostook County Fund of the Maine Community Foundation to construct a handicapped ramp in the new addition to the library. This would allow equal access for patrons to all areas of the library and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

In addition to monies provided by the Aroostook County Fund, supplemental funds were recently donated by the Gauvin Lighthouse Fund to assist with the Robert Frost Memorial Library’s upcoming project. The library plans to construct a handicapped ramp in the new addition to the library. This would allow equal access for patrons to all areas of the library and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Here, Barbara Gallagher, vice chair of the board of trustees of the Robert Frost Memorial Library, left, receives a check from Heidi Graham, chief executive officer of Advantage Payroll, and Ray Gauvin, president of Advantage Payroll.
In addition to the monies provided by the Aroostook County Fund, supplemental funds were donated by the Gauvin Lighthouse Fund, to assist with this project.
According to Rea Caldwell, executive director for the library, an additional 3,400 square feet will be added to the existing library building.
“This will allow us to be in compliance with the ADA, and create the space needed for new technology, materials, and programming,” she said.
On Sept. 15, 2008, Barbara Gallagher, vice chair of the board of trustees, received the check from representatives of the Gauvin Lighthouse Fund. Presenting the check were Heidi Graham, chief executive officer of Advantage Payroll, and Ray Gauvin, president of Advantage Payroll in Presque Isle and chair of the Gauvin Lighthouse Fund.
The Gauvin Lighthouse Fund was created in 2000. After the sale of several downstate franchises of his business, Advantage Payroll Services, Ray Gauvin seized the opportunity to give back to the community and county that had helped him become successful in life. So he, and his wife, Sandy, created the Gauvin Lighthouse Fund to support organizations that need a helping hand to better themselves, and, in turn, their community.
“We’re able to make donations to projects like these because of the success of our out-of-state, as well as our Aroostook County business, Advantage Payroll Services,” he said. “It’s an honor to give back to the communities that have supported us for over 25 years.”
