KINDERGARTEN, first- and second-grade students from Pine Street Elementary School recently participated in a penny drive to benefit the Central Aroostook Humane Society. The money, given as a donation, was collected during a two-week period coinciding with Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.
Students brought in pennies, which Tammy Willey and Amber Blackstone rolled and counted, with the help from Hedrich’s Vending and TD Banknorth. Betsy Hallett, director of the humane society, recently visited the school and was presented two checks totaling $625.27.
