The Caribou Public Library has added downloadable audio books to their list of services they are providing to area residents. The service is made possible through a New Century Grant and the Maine InfoNet.      “The grant covers the cost of installation, configuration and licensing fees,” noted Library Director, Diane DuBois. “Libraries who choose to participate pay an annual fee based on their community’s population. Our library will pay  $500 dollars a year for this service as opposed to thousands of dollars had the grant not been made available. We are very pleased to be able to offer this service which can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” added DuBois.
The service can be accessed via the library’s Web site at www.caribou-public.lib.me.us, once there, library users can download audio books to their PC, then transfer them to supported devices such as Ipods and MP3 players.
Some titles may even be burned to CDs. The titles include new releases, classics, children’s and adult fiction and non-fiction books.
