Skip and Betty Gray of Littleton lost their garage, car, snow blower and a variety of miscellaneous items last Thursday evening about 8:30 p.m. due to a fire. Gray had come home from work earlier in the day due to illness and had gone to bed. His wife, Betty was watching television in the living room toward the center of the ranch-style house.
Luckily their dog, needed to go outside. It was at that time Gray’s wife discovered the fire. The garage was just feet from the entrance to their home.
Both Littleton and Monticello responded to the 9-1-1 call and were able to contain the fire and prevent it from destroying the main part of the house, although it did receive some smoke damage. The fire was so hot that it melted the siding and blackened the attached entryway. The garage is totally gutted inside, but still standing.
Gray said, “We are blessed, it could have been so much worse. If it had been later in the evening it might have been a different story.”
Fire marshals were on the scene Monday and determined the cause of the fire to be electrical. The Grays do have insurance to help with the rebuilding and replacement of their vehicle.
