Marion Hoar hosted the next to the last Lenten breakfast on March 29 and she was assisted by Steve Berry, doing the cooking, Donna Berry in charge of making the toast and Sam frying the bacon. Helping throughout the serving of the meal were Verna Boone, Bertha Pray and Patti Hartin.
The menu included both tomato and orange juice and of course, the usual bacon and eggs and toast, along with jelly and marmalade and doughnut holes to finish. All was greatly enjoyed by a good group, and hopefully they will all return to enjoy the final Lenten breakfast on April 5.
On March 28, Lois Green, Annie Jane Smith, Shirley Sides, Winnie Desmond, Loretta Bouchard and I were in Sherman to attend the surprise birthday party for our friend, Jackie Pratt. It was certainly a grand affair and she was indeed very surprised when she walked into the Sherman gym expecting to join her musical group at a party for Errol Hunt.
Instead, it turned out that she played for her own party, where about 300 friends and family members had arrived to celebrate. Following a great lunch, Jackie cut the cake and then appeared on stage to play for the dancing and to sing several songs during the afternoon.
Before the dancing started, her daughter Gretchen Rush, who had hosted the party “roasted” her mother, much to everyone’s enjoyment and Jackie’s, too.
I had a good look at the female cardinal the other day, early in the morning. She was trying to decide if she wanted to get some of the birdseed on top of one of the feeders. She went back and forth between the cedar tree and the feeder. They certainly are a skittish bird. I have to keep a sharp lookout for the black cat to keep him away from the cedar tree. I had several robins on the front lawn several days ago, so I guess spring has finally arrived. I am now feeding four deer out by the barn. I looked out about 6 p.m. and there they were. I took out some bread and they took off, but hesitated when I talked to them. When I went back in the house they all came back for their treat.
