For the past five years on National Scrapbooking Day (the first Saturday in May), a scrapbooking convention has been held here in Aroostook County. Every year, this one-day event has attracted over 200 people! And this year will be no different. This year’s event is scheduled to take place on May 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Aroostook Centre Mall (the empty store located between Sears and the Dollar Store). The event is open to the public—free admission. The purpose of this convention is to bring all the local scrapbook stores, teachers, consultants and enthusiasts together, in one place, for everyone to see what is available right here in Aroostook County for this very popular hobby. Throughout the day, participants are able to see the latest and hottest scrapbooking and rubber stamping products that are available right here in their hometowns (in the county). They are also able to purchase items for their own creative use and even try out the new products by doing make-n-take projects, which are provided by the vendors. This is a chance for scrapbookers to learn and see how products are used-and see that it’s all available right here in the county (they don’t have to shop online or make a trip to Bangor).
This year’s participating vendors are as follows: Frozen in Time, located in Madawaska-owner Diane Doucette; Scraps!, located in Houlton—owners Bev Rowe and Lisa Winship; Scrapbooking Dreams, located in Patten—owner Jennifer Hartsgrove; Mom & Me Scrapbooking, located in Saco—Mary Pelkey; Treasure Chest Crafts, located in Presque Isle—Lisa Cray; Cherished Memories—Bernet Bagley from Caribou; Creative Memories—Edwina Vincent from Caribou; Stampin’ Up—Lisa Bosse from St. Agatha, Sue Pelletier from Caribou and Elaine Ouellette from Van Buren; and Aroostook Photo Services & Memory Works—Jill Doucette from Madawaska.
