The Caribou PTA will be joining thousands of communities across the country in celebrating PTA Teacher Appreciation Week this May 3–9. This effort is an expansion on Eleanor Roosevelt’s idea of National Teacher Day, established in 1953, and is dedicated to the week-long celebration of accomplished educators. During this special week, communities will be honoring the dedicated men and women who lend their passion and skills to educating our children. “Experts have concluded that giving teachers the status and recognition they deserve as professionals is the best way to improve education in this country,” said Cindy Johnson, PTA representative. “All of us know of exceptional teachers, and we should recognize that there is a great deal of good work being done in our schools,” she added.
This year the Caribou PTA will be hosting a luncheon in each school to honor the outstanding efforts of local teachers and staff. During this week, PTA members encourage parents and members of the community to take a moment to stop by their child’s school and say “hello,” drop off a platter of goodies, or send in a note of thanks.
“Let us each strive to give our teachers the recognition they deserve,” said Johnson.
