Special to the Aroostook Republican
Anyone who has not picked up their order from our “Open House” please do so. Orders are bagged and ready. Our fund-raiser was a huge success and definitely something we would try again. We appreciate all of you who helped to make this so much fun. Speaking of fund-raisers and fun, our Paws for the Cause event is coming up on June 6. This is always our biggest fund-raiser of the year, so go to www.centralaroostookhumanesociety.org and download your sheet and start collecting pledges. This is a time to bring your dog and enjoy the time together to raise money for a great cause. Older animals make awesome companions. They are usually calm, require less exercise, want more one-on-one affection, walk well on a leash and behave well with people, kids and other animals. They’ve already been housebroken or litter box trained, spayed or neutered, are up-to-date on vaccinations and have received basic obedience training. They only need a little TLC, which is exactly what we humans love to give our best friends. What more could you want from a companion?
As I look around our shelter, I am amazed at how many older cats we have available for adoption — cats that were once beloved companions and know how to be loving pets. They long for a place to call home, a warm bed, healthy food and an owner who loves them. We have decided to promote these cats by offering them at half off the usual price for their adoption (no senior discount) from today until May 31. Normally their adoption would be $60, but with this promotion any cat that is over 5 years and older would be only $30. These cats are already altered and some are even de-clawed, what an awesome deal! Now is the time, if you have been thinking about adopting a cat, to visit the Central Aroostook Humane Society. We still require all adopters to fill out an application to adopt. We work very hard to screen potential adopters and find wonderful forever homes for the animals.
Having animals is all about enjoying each other’s company, about spending time and treating them like part of your family, otherwise, what is the point? We are lucky that so many people who have adopted from CAHS return to visit us or send us letters to update us on how their pet is doing. These letters, e-mails and visits are what keep us going and give us the strength to continue our mission. Unfortunately, we see some pretty terrible things and meet some “not so nice” people or deal with “not so nice” situations, so hearing a happy ending warms our hearts and reminds us why we do this.
If you are looking for a friend for life, please stop by the Central Aroostook Humane Society and visit with us. We are sure that we have just the right friend for you. Our business hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or give us a call at 764-3441. You can also visit us on line at www.centralaroostookhumanesociety.org.
Please have your pet spayed or neutered.
