Special to the Star-Herald
Easton’s pageant for Little Miss, Jr. Miss and Miss Easton went off without a hitch on Saturday evening, April 25.
The pageant, under the direction of Kyla Legassie, with Master of Ceremonies Sarah Sullivan, was very well run. There was the introduction of last year’s Little Miss Easton Alahana Tarbox, Miss Pre-Teen Bailee Getchell, Jr. Miss Easton Acacia Kimball, with each entertaining the audience with their talents.
Next, the talents of the competing 2009 young ladies began. The event began with competitors for Little Miss Easton taking the stage first.
Samantha Ofria, daughter of Fred and Rebecca Smith, and Bill Ofria, was the only one for the evening who did a vocal. She was delightful with the song, “This Little Light of Mine.” She did a great job, never missing a beat and singing right up so everyone could hear.
The second little contestant, Alexis Hayes, daughter of Ryan and Karen Hayes, did a monologue on “My Journal.” She remembered every word and her delivery was perfect.
Then came Anna-Marie Tompkins, daughter of Sam and Lisa Tompkins, who did a Native American Blanket Dance with the accompaniment of her two male cousins on the drums. This was a beautiful dance and Anna-Marie did a beautiful job, never missing a step. She was dressed in a pretty Native American costume, as were her cousins.
I would not have wanted to be the judges at this time, for they all were outstanding. Alexis Hayes walked off with the Little Miss Easton 2009 win.
Next were the two girls running for Jr. Miss Easton 2009. Caitlin Monroe, daughter of Mike Monroe and Pamm Haskell, and Cathy Walker, played the piano piece, “Spanish Dance.” She was very good as a young pianist.
Abigail O’Clair Thompson, daughter of Jason and Heidi Thompson, did a monologue called “The Last Few Days of Shopping Before Christmas,” which was very well done and funny.
Abigail was awarded a trophy for Highest Ticket Sales. Caitlin Monroe won the Jr. Miss Easton 2009 contest.
On to the Miss Easton contestants, Taylor Burtt, daughter of Allison and Heidi Burtt, did a comedic monologue called “Oops,” and did it ever so well. Taylor was also awarded the Congeniality trophy.
Kacie Getchell, daughter of Kim and Troy Fennemore, and Fred Getchell and Lisa Gardner, played the violin piece, “Ashokan Farewell.” She did a beautiful job. It isn’t often that we hear a violin played for a talent. Kacie was given the Spirit Award.
Taylor was picked as the new Miss Easton 2009.
There were several visiting queens introduced and then the Miss Teen Easton 2008, Kilynne Beaulieu ,and Miss Easton 2008, Casey Baston, performed their talents, with the 2008 Easton queens taking their final walks.
We were also entertained by the reigning Mr. Easton, C.J. Beaton, and his restrained object of devotion, Dustin White, who was duct-taped to his chair, with tape over his mouth, while C.J. sang a love ballad to him. The pageant thanks all those who made this evening a success.
