Members of the Lister/Knowlton VFW and the Henry B. Pratt, Jr. American Legion Post in Caribou were out early one morning this week checking out the Veterans’ Honor Roll site. The always changing weather, especially the harsh winters and strong winds results in continuing maintenance. As Memorial Day approaches, the organizations which are responsible for the site and repairs, will be placing donation receptacles at area businesses, hoping to spur community involvement regarding the costly repairs that must be done. During the reconnaissance mission, Wayne Little presented Rey Guerrette with a $150 donation, raised from a benefit supper. Honor Roll committee members are, from left: Jack Parisi, Doug Michaud, Dale McGlinn, Little and Guerrette. Absent from the photo was Kevin St. Pierre.

The memorial structure is damaged by severe weather each year and committee members are looking to repair the name panels, as well as making other necessary repairs.
“We’ve lost the roof three different times now, “ stated Honor Roll committee member Rey Guerrette, “the name boards are cracking and we would like to be able to restore those and possibly even enclose  those panels.”
With Memorial Day not too far in the future, committee members have placed donation cans in various businesses in Caribou, in hopes that citizens will help Caribou’s VFW and American Legion in their restoration project.
It’s Caribou’s 150th birthday — be a part of it and help preserve our history.
