ASHLAND and MASARDIS – Mary “Stella” Lyons MacDonald, 89, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009, at the Mars Hill Nursing Home with her loving family by her side. She was born on March 14, 1920, in Ashland, the daughter of John Adolph and Alphonsina “Bea” (Dumont) Blinn.
She graduated from Masardis High School. Stella worked for many years at Tater State in Washburn. She enjoyed working in her beautiful flower gardens, doing ceramics and playing Bingo at the local V.F.W. She was a member of St. Mark’s Parish of Ashland, member of the LeBlanc-Junkins V.F.W. Auxiliary and past member of the Senior Citizens Club of Ashland, and a 25 year member of the Aroostook R.S.V.P.
She is survived by a daughter, Sheila Buckingham and her husband Leon of Garfield Plantation; two sons, Jon Lyons and his wife Sheila of Masardis, Sheldon Lyons and his companion Joan King of Masardis; grandchildren, Mike Jimmo, Shauna Goulet, Margaret Lyons, Kim Holmes, Gary Lyons, Shelley Flannagan, Kelley Brown, and Travis Lyons; great-grandchildren, Courtney Jimmo, Sami, Stephi, and Cassi Goulet, Haleigh and Brady Holmes, Amanda, Morgan, and Taylor Stevens, Casey, Jesse, and Nistelle Lyons, Toni Marie and Nickalas Valesques and Jamie Poitraw; step-great-grandson, Tyler MacDonald, several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Molly Dumont of Colorado. Stella was predeceased by her parents; her first husband, Rodney E. Lyons; her second husband, Douglas A. MacDonald; a brother, John Wallace Blinn; a sister, Mary “Viola” Blinn Swett; granddaughter, Michelle Lea Lyons; stepsons, Michael “Mike” MacDonald, Gerard “Jerry” MacDonald and Joseph “Joe” MacDonald.
A graveside service will be held 3:30 p.m. Sat., May 23, 2009, at the Masardis Cemetery, Masardis with Pastor Donald Morton Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Activities Dept. of the Northwood Manor, 35 Walker Street, Ashland, ME 04732.
