On Friday, Presque Isle hosted Bucksport for an afternoon of games. Both Wildcat teams lost the first game to the Bucks but came back to win the second.
The Wildcats stayed even with the Bucks in game one until the third inning, when Bucksport sent home seven runs. Presque Isle sent home a run of their own in the bottom of the third, and though Bucksport would not score again, the Bucks kept a tight hold on the Wildcat offense, only allowing Presque Isle four more runs.
Brennen Shaw doubled for the Wildcats and sent two runs home in the first game, but showed his strength in the second game as he and teammate Matt Chasse shared the mound to pitch a four-hitter, nine strikeout game. Shaw sent home two runs on a homerun and another on a single and took the save while Zac Campbell had three RBIs and two singles. Catcher Steve Ford contributed a two-run homer as the Wildcats record moves to 5-5.
The Lady Wildcats suffered their third loss of the season in game one of a Friday afternoon doubleheader against the Bucksport Lady Bucks. Tied at the third inning, Presque Isle took a one run lead at the bottom of the fourth, but a fifth inning rally by Bucksport gave the Bucks a late lead, leaving the Lady Wildcats helpless to recover and ending the game 7-3, Bucksport, with Allison Young contributing two singles and crossing home twice. Krista Coffin, who pitched both games, took an initial loss but a late day win as the Lady Wildcats came back to win game two, 5-3. Bucksport was the first to score, but Presque Isle retaliated with their first run at the bottom of the second to tie, then took the lead for good in the third with two more runs. Caitlyn Esancy tripled and scored in the fourth inning for the Lady Wildcats and Alecia Palmer’s RBI double helped give Presque Isle their seventh win. As of May 12, the Lady Wildcats are in sixth place overall.
Coffin helped the Wildcats to another win over the Lady Warriors on Thursday. Presque Isle walked away in five innings with a 29-10 victory, but not before Coffin hit an over the fence homerun, the first in seven years for a Wildcat athlete at home. Coffin also added a double and single and Young doubled twice while Jenna Stephenson scored five runs. The Wildcats strongest inning was the second, where they put home 18 runs.
At a rescheduled Thursday afternoon game against Fort Kent, Ethan Braley pitched a seven-inning, 12 strikeout game to lead the Presque Isle Wildcats to a 10-3 victory over the Warriors. Though Fort Kent sent the first run home in the second, Presque Isle retaliated in the bottom of the second with three runs, as Braley contributed a single, double and an RBI. Isaac LaJoie added another double and two RBIs and Wilder York’s single and two RBIs boosted the ‘Cats to a seven-run lead by the sixth inning.
The Lady Wildcats traveled to Houlton on May 13 and left with their fifth season win in a 6-2 victory over the Lady Shires. Coffin took another win, only giving Houlton four hits in their two-run loss. Presque Isle’s offensive strength showed itself early in the first inning as the Lady Wildcats sent three runs home and another two runs in at the top of the second. Emily Currie recorded two singles and Kelsey Park hit a double for PIHS.
Presque Isle took another win over Houlton as the baseball team came from behind to beat the Shires 9-6 in Houlton May 13. The Wildcats were the first to score in the third inning, but the Shires took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the third, and two more urns in the fourth and fifth innings respectively. Presque Isle stepped up their play in the sixth inning with four more runs to put the game at 6-5, Houlton.
The Wildcats final four runs came in their last at-bat, and Presque Isle managed to silence Houlton in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win. RBI bunt singles came from Brennan Shaw, Steve Ford and Eric Morris, with a two-run triple from Braley leading the sixth inning rally.
