1857 – Presque Isle’s “The Aroostook Pioneer” was the first newspaper established in Aroostook County.
1858 – The first bridge, a covered bridge, was built to span the Aroostook River. The construction costs are covered 50 percent by the state and 50 percent by public subscription.
