Class Night held for Easton students

Achievements noted

On June 3, Easton High School held its annual Class Night. It went very well, as compared to baccalaureate. Each class president wished the Class of 2009 well and made a few brief remarks, with the exception of Luke Budreau, Junior Class president (2010). Luke composed a poem for the class of 2009 which he read.  It was humorous and kept everyone laughing. There were many awards given in different classes. We have a lot of smart young people in Easton. We are proud of each one of you.
Toni Brown was the recipient of the FFA DeKalb Award, as well as the recipient of the Albert Wright $500 scholarship. Congratulations, Toni.
Katrina Martin received the Principal’s Association Award.
The Scholastic Excellence Award went to two top students, Katrina Martin and Bradley Trask. Katrina also got the U.S. Marine Corps Award.
The Distinguished Athlete Award presented by the Marine Corps was won by two young men, Sam Bacon and Sean Daniels.
Outstanding School Citizen Award for all four years of high school went to a young lady who is very respectful, helpful and shines in all she does. She is the secretary for the National Honor Society and for Student Council. I am very happy to say that young lady is Megan Bradley. Megan is very deserving of this award. I personally want to say, great job, Meggie Weg. I love you. Keep up the good work.
The Willis A. McPherson Award for the most-improved senior in all four years of high school went to Arianna Myshrall.
Students of the Month for the month of May and June at Easton High School are Tim Langlais and Steven Straight. Congratulations.

Promotion

Bruce Robbins, a 1987 Easton High School graduate, was recently promoted to the rank of master chief petty officer in the United States Navy. He has re-enlisted for three more years of Naval service. Master Chief Robbins is currently the Engineering Department leading chief petty officer onboard the USS FARRAGUT (DDG99) home-ported in Mayport, Fla. He is the son of Sonny and Linda Robbins, of Easton. We are very proud of you Bruce. Congratulations.

Out of town

Jackie Condon and her daughter, Shelley McLean, along with Shelly’s son, Morgan, made a surprise visit to Norman, Okla., on May 15. They went to visit Jackie’s daughter Tina, who graduated with a 4.0 from the College of Arts & Science within the University of Oklahoma with her master’s degree in human relations. Tina, who is married to a former Mars Hill resident Wade Henderson, also works for the University of Oklahoma in the Education Abroad Office coordinating exchange students’ programs for the international students who come to OU for short-term educational stays. Wade and Tina have one son, Logan, who is 17 and will be a senior this fall. During their visit Jackie, Shelley and Morgan were given a tour of the massive OU campus, shopped, met some of Tina’s international students, visited local malls and enjoyed some family time. A good time was had by all and, if time allows, Tina, Wade and Logan would like to come back to Maine during the winter because it has been almost eight years since they have seen any snow over two inches’ accumulation.

Easton senior prom night

Prom night for the Easton Class of 2009 went very well. It was held at the Northeastland Hotel in Presque Isle. Leslie Carlow was the DJ for the evening. Mrs. Ireland, Mr. Wright and his wife, Debbie, were the chaperones. They laughed and danced the night away until 11 p.m. From there, they went to Toni Brown’s house for a giant bonfire. They were all tired the next day, but that’s part of being a teenager.
