Extenions enjoys spring

The Spragueville Homemakers Extension has been participating in and enjoying several springtime events of late.     On Monday, April 27, seven members traveled to Caribou to have a tour of the National Weather Service Station. This was a very interesting tour, and everyone enjoyed a Power-Point presentation on Lightning, also they toured the facility where the weather balloons are prepared for lift-off twice a day to relay data back to the station. Following the tour, members returned to Presque Isle, where they had a short business meeting at Tim Hortons, while enjoying refreshments.
On Saturday, May 2, nine members attended the Annual County Homemakers Spring Tea in Caribou, hosted by the Caribou Day and Caribou Homemakers Extension. Following the registration and social time, County President Carolyn Kelley conducted the business meeting, which was then followed by a lovely lunch of various quiches, salads and desserts. A family of father, mother and son provided a musical program of Scottish music for the group’s entertainment, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Fifteen ladies left the tea with a geranium, which were table decorations/door prizes, graciously donated from the nursery of Kristine Bondeson.
On Monday, May 18, nine members went on their Annual May Outing to the Amish community in Fort Fairfield, stopping at the Yoder’s Home Bakery to check out their baked goods, wooden items and scented wax candles. Everyone enjoyed the hospitality of the Yoder family, and most left with some goodies. It certainly was interesting to witness first-hand this different lifestyle of our latest County residents.
Following the tour, members enjoyed the scenic ride back to Presque Isle, where they were joined by three additional members at Bonanza for their evening meal. Following the meal, a short business meeting was held. LaVone Walters once again volunteered to order and pick up marigolds for the Balloon Site, with the planting date set for Monday, June 15, at 8 a.m. A discussion was held on the kind of tree to be planted at the Balloon Site in memory of Wayne Wheeler; after conferring with Tammy and Marilyn Wheeler, it was voted to purchase a flowering crab tree. Ideas for the fair booth theme “Green is…” were suggested. Members are to research more ideas, to be presented at a later date.
It was voted to hold the Annual Family Potluck picnic at the James School on June 22, with supper at 6 p.m. All were reminded to bring their place settings.
Following the meeting, members left the restaurant, having thoroughly enjoyed another Annual May Outing.
