The Oakfield American Legion No. 52 hosted a Veteran’s Memorial Service at the Oakfield Cemetery on Memorial Day morning. Clifford Slauenwhite of Smyrna Mills accepted the position of commander for Post 52 from Leroy Hersey of Oakfield who had held the office for 19 years.
Hersey was presented with a plaque for his service. Following the ceremony residents and visitors enjoyed the annual Memorial Day parade featuring several veterans, floats, the Southern Aroostook Community School band and fire engines.
Representative Henry Joy of Crystal was also a guest at the festivities. Following the parade donuts were served at the Post 52 meeting house, compliments of Dunkin’ Donuts of Houlton.

OAKFIELD VETERANS — The Memorial Day Parade in Oakfield honored local veterans and remembered those that had died. Marching in the parade from left were Clifford Slauenwhite, Steve Greenlaw, Douglas Clark, Kerry Bartlett, Leroy Hersey and Mike Swallow partially hidden.
