PRESQUE ISLE – Summer will soon be here and with it comes one of the area’s most popular fund-raisers, the Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Strawberry Shortcake Sale.     “The Strawberry Shortcake Sale is one of our major fund-raising events and definitely one of the most anticipated,” said Theresa Fowler, the Chamber’s executive director.
Fowler said the popular event takes a lot of planning, with much of the work involved being handled by volunteers, including PIACC Board members and those interested in helping raise funds for the organization. She said volunteers are always welcome at such events.
“We can always use a few extra hands to help construct the shortcakes and deliver them,” said Fowler, noting that large orders are common.
“The deliveries will be made to Caribou, Mars Hill, Fort Fairfield and Mapleton, plus around the city of Presque Isle,” Fowler said. “Help is always appreciated.”
This year’s event will be held on Thursday, June 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“The location of our strawberry shortcake booth this year will be at the KeyBank parking lot on North St. for walk-up customers. Deliveries will be made to businesses who order 10 or more shortcakes,” said Fowler.
Cost per shortcake is $3. Orders can be placed in advance by calling the Chamber at 764-6561 or can be purchased at the time indicated at the booth on North St. Funds raised go toward the Chamber’s yearly operating expenses.
The sale is just one of the many celebrations taking part throughout the city this year, helping to mark Presque Isle’s Sesquicentennial.
Joining the fun on June 25, the Star-Herald office, located at 40 North St., will be holding an open house, complete with a hotdog cook-out.
Donations will be accepted, with the proceeds going to a local organization.
The public is welcome to attend from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., so come meet the staff and have lunch on us.
