Houlton 9-10 all-stars undefeated

The Houlton 9-10-year-old All-stars remain undefeated (3-0) in the District 3 Little League playoffs, as they edged Brewer, 7-6 on Monday in Holden.
   The Houlton All-stars next game will be against Holbrook at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow in Holbrook.
Brewer led 1-0 until the top of the third when the Houlton All-stars took a 2-1 advantage when Isia Bouchard led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice by Matt Tuttle. Cameron Graham then singled followed by Billy Phillips sacrifice RBI. After Nick Cowperthwaite’s walk loaded the bases with two outs, Caleb Tribou singled to bring in the second run.
But, Brewer tied the game in the bottom of the frame. The Houlton team regained the lead, 4-2 in the top of the fourth on Tuttle’s fielder’s choice and Cowperthwaite’s RBI-single. Houlton added another run in the fifth and finished the game with two runs in the sixth on an RBI-triple by Tribou and Jacob Worthley’s run-scoring single to take a 7-4 lead.
According to coach Shawn Graham, Brewer threatened in the final inning, scoring twice to cut the lead to 7-6. They had the tying run on second base and the winning run on first before Graham struck out Brewer’s Josh Pellegrino to end it.
Last Friday, the Houlton All-stars defeated Lincoln, 14-4 in five innings.
Abe Lorom and Worthley punched out first inning RBI-singles, while Phillips doubled to give Houlton a 3-0 lead. The Houlton All-stars added five more runs in the third inning for an 8-1 advantage, as Graham led off the inning with a bunt single, followed by Cowperthwaite and Phillips back-to-back singles. Lorom doubled to drive in two runs and Worthley’s single brought in run.
Lincoln hit the scoreboard in the fourth after three walks and two fielder’s choice groundouts gave them three runs.
Holding an 8-4 lead, the Houlton All-stars scored four more runs in the bottom of the third. Tuttle, Graham and Cowperthwaite all singled, and then with one out, Lorom put down a safety squeeze bunt to score Tuttle. With two outs, Tribou’s single delivered two more runs.
Bouchard and Tuttle combined to pitch a two-hitter, with eight strikeouts.
