Panel to discuss wind power

Mainers with first-hand experience will hold a panel discussion on wind power, Thursday, July 23, 6 p.m. at Houlton Southside School. Dylan Voorhees, clean energy director for the Natural Resources Council of Maine, will introduce the discussion by putting wind power in the context of Maine’s energy situation. This will be followed by a moderated panel discussion featuring Maine people who will share their specific experiences with wind power in the state.     Panelists will include Lisa Burtt, business owner and resident of Mars Hill, Tim Crowley, president of Northern Maine Community College, and Pat DeFilipp, senior project manager at Reed & Reed General Contractors.
Organizers say wind power is one of the least harmful sources of power which creates jobs and economic benefits to the community. They also say the event will provide an opportunity for local community members to hear from fellow Mainers about their experiences with wind power. Presentations will be followed by a question—and—answer session. The forum has not been designed to address specific wind projects currently in the permitting process.
The discussion is sponsored by the Natural Resources Council of Maine and is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Interested persons are asked to confirm their attendance to emmie@nrcm.org, or call (800) 287-2345 ext. 205.
