Sanders, Ellen, 77, July 31, 2009.  Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls.  Interment was held in the Oakfield Cemetery.
    OAKFIELD – Ellen Sanders, 77, died July 31, 2009, in Houlton. She was born Feb. 9, 1932, in Oakfield, daughter of Ivan and Daphne (Shorey) Barrows.
    Ellen worked in the hot lunch program at Oakfield High School and helped start Green Valley Association. She was a member of the Universalist Church, where she was president of the Murray Club. "Mommy loved living at the lake." She was an avid knitter and enjoyed her family, extended families and picnics at the lake.
    She is survived by four children, Christie and Mary Sanders of Island Falls, Alto and Cindy Sanders of Middletown, Conn., Evelyn "Tootie" Britton of Houlton and Shelli Sanders of Oakfield; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; also Charlene and Mike Kehler; and six sisters, Eva Hamm, Verna Boone and Iris Chambers, all of Oakfield, Ona McDonals of Florida, Lois Tidd of Connecticut and Sharon Martin of Oakfield. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Donald "Donkey"; one son, Roger; one sister, Mary Dickinson; and one brother, Hubert "Jeep" Barrows.
    Friends called 6-8 p.m. Monday at Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls, where funeral services were held 1 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Andy Harthorne officiating. Interment was at Oakfield Cemetery.
