On Monday, Aug.3, officers from the Caribou Police Department were dispatched to a home invasion off of Route 1 North in Caribou, at 12: 40 a.m. An official from the CPD stated two victims, a male and female, both advised officers they had been awakened by two male subjects breaking a picture window in the residence who then gained entrance through the front door. Once inside the home, the male was reportedly assaulted with a shovel while the female was held in the bedroom.
Based on physical evidence and witness accounts Luc Gagnon, of New Sweden and Michael Schmeltz, of Lynn, Mass. were arrested for class B burglary, assault and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer.
According to Caribou Police Officer Keith Ouellette, who has been assigned to the case, both males have had bail set at $10,000 cash/$20,000 surety and remain in custody.
A superior court arraignment date has been set for Sept 17, 2009.
