Tryout dates for SAD 1 fall sports announced

    SAD 1 is holding tryouts for its high school and middle school fall sports teams beginning in early August.
    Student-athletes are not allowed to try out for any sport unless they are cleared by the SAD 1 Health Office. Call 764-1805 or 764-6507 for more information. 

    Girls and boys cross country running tryouts will begin Aug. 10 at 3 p.m. at Presque Isle High School. Varsity golf tryouts are set for Aug. 17 at 3 p.m. at Presque Isle Country Club. Varsity fall cheering tryouts take place Aug. 17 from 6-8 p.m. at the PIHS upper gym.
    Middle school girls soccer tryouts begin Aug. 10 from 1-3 p.m. at the Johnson Athletic Complex. Boys tryouts are held from 8-10 a.m. that same day.
    Boys and girls cross country running tryouts for middle school-level students will be held beginning Aug. 17 from 3-4 p.m. at the Johnson Athletic Complex.

JV soccer round-robin

    The 12th annual Junior Varsity Soccer Round Robin will be hosted by Presque Isle High School at the Johnson Athletic Complex Aug. 12.
    Games will be played on three different fields from 3:30-5:40. Madawaska, Central Aroostook, Caribou and Presque Isle are the participating teams.

PIHS Invitational slated for Aug. 13 and 15

    The 17th annual PIHS Invitational Soccer Tournament will be held Thursday, Aug. 13 and Saturday, Aug. 15 at the Johnson Athletic Complex.
    Teams participating in this year’s event are Fort Kent, Ashland, Caribou, Madawaska, Houlton, Van Buren and Presque Isle. Round-robin games begin Thursday, Aug. 13 at 3 p.m. and run until 6:55 p.m. that day. The Saturday, Aug. 15 round-robin schedule is from 8:30 a.m. to 11:25 a.m. The top two girls teams will play in the championship beginning at 11:35 a.m. The top two boys teams square off at 12:15 p.m.

Waterville team wins softball event

     R & K Painting of Waterville defeated the PSS Rockets of Augusta, 8-3, to capture first place in the Class E ASA Slow Pitch State Tournament, held July 25 and 26 at Teague Park in Caribou.
    The Rockets had beaten R & K, 8-7, to force the “if necessary” game. Hunt Law of Houlton came in third. The top three teams qualified for the national tournament in Salem, Va. later this summer.

    Named tournament MVP was Gary Gilley of R & K Painting.

Aug. 28 concert is varsity club fundraiser

    The Presque Isle High School Varsity Club is pleased to present the Boston-based rock and blues band Ernie and the Automatics on Friday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. in the PIHS Auditorium.
    Members of Ernie and the Automatics have sold over 30 million albums worldwide. The band features guitarist Barry Goudreau and drummer Sib Hashian, both former original members of the multi-platinum selling band Boston. Local artist Brian Mosher will open the show. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.
