The Houlton 9-10-year-old All-star team has been busy not only in state tournament play, but they participated in the Caribou Lion’s Tournament a couple of weeks ago.
The 9-10 division consisted of just four teams — Caribou Quick Mart, Caribou All-stars, Van Buren All-stars and Houlton.
In the first game, Houlton defeated Caribou Quick Mart, 19-1. Nick Cowperthwaite and Matt Tuttle both doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs, while Billy Phillips also added two doubles, a single for four RBIs.
In their second game, Houlton met the Caribou All-stars, who had defeated Van Buren. Houlton topped Caribou, 9-2 behind Phillips’ three singles, Cowperthwaite’s two doubles. Cameron Graham and Matt Tuttle both singled twice.
Cowperthwaite pitched a complete game four-hitter with 12 strikeouts.
The Caribou All-stars came back through the loser’s bracket to face Houlton once again in the championship game. In a slugfest, Houlton pulled out the lopsided, 21-11 win.
Abe Lorom and Tuttle each singled three times, while Logan Ellis, Phillips and Connor Grant each had a pair of singles and Cowperthwaite doubled and singled.
