Just in time for the fall high school athletic season, a veteran sports reporter has joined the staff of the Caribou and Presque Isle newspapers.
Joseph Cyr, a Houlton native and 1993 University of Maine at Presque Isle graduate, will cover sports and recreation throughout central Aroostook County, from Bridgewater to Caswell and all points in between. Most recently, he wrote about and photographed sporting events for the VillageNet Media and its Rockland-based Herald-Gazette newspaper.
Throughout his 16-year journalism career, Cyr has won nearly 50 Maine Press Association awards for writing and photography. His first job after college was at the Star-Herald where he covered general news and business development from 1993-97. He later reported for the Courier Gazette in Rockland where he was promoted to sports director in 2007. Courier Publications group was sold to VillageNet Media in 2008.
Cyr and his wife, Charity, have two children — Isabel, 6, and Olivia, 2.
