Jerry York made it two in a row. Last weekend he played solid golf for two days and held off Dennis Wright and Mike Fleming to win the 2009 Men’s Club Championship for the second consecutive year with a two-day score of 151. With only a one-stroke lead, after Saturday’s 75, over eventual B Division champ Sean Dolomont, York made few mistakes and held his two-stroke lead throughout Sunday.
In the Ladies’ Division, Louann Dwyer shot a 77 on Saturday and had a seven-stroke lead to maintain her lead on Sunday to win the Ladies’ Club Championship.
Nick Chase also had a great Saturday, shooting six over par 78 to win the Junior Division.
Congratulations to the other winners during Club Championship weekend: Ladies “B” champion, Lori Holmes; Men’s “B” champion, Sean Dolomont; Men’s “C” champ, Dewey DeWitt; Ladies “A” Net champ, Linda Holmes; Ladies “B” Net champ, Marilyn Ellis; Men’s “A” Net champ, David Grant; Men’s “B” Net champ, Greg Palmer and Men’s “C” Net champ, Tom Moakler.
In the Men’s Twilight League, 16 teams remain after the opening round of playoffs. The Tony Marino/Andrew Peabody team is looking to extend their hot streak and defend last year’s championship, but too many good teams remain that could knock them out.
With only seven days to sign up for the 2009 Babe Caron Member/Guest Tournament, which will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 5 and 6, there are only seven spots still open. We will again have only 50 teams. And members, remember, you must have 10 scores at HCGC recorded by Thursday, Sept. 3. Also, that weekend will be a special pre-tournament evening Friday night, then on Saturday night Sept. 5, world famous chef Joe Bergan will be putting on a tournament prime rib dinner at 6 p.m. Sign up now for this feast.
A special thanks goes out to the grounds crew for their tremendous effort this year in bringing back the greens and course in general after such a hard winter. This was not the easiest of summers, with the days and days of rain, but Brent Hammond and his crew of Ray Barton, Joe McLaughlin and Matt Bubar worked very hard to make sure the golfers had a great experience on a manicured course.
