Funds for 2008 weather damage

More than $2.2 million is available for anyone living in any Maine county who was impacted by the severe storms and flooding that occurred April 28-May 14, 2008. The funds are being administered  through the Maine Community Action Association (MCAA) for a statewide program that provides first-time funding and/or reimbursement for individuals, families and not-for-profit agencies who suffered losses and are able to provide supporting documentation along with a testimonial signature to qualify for assistance.
Funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority being given to applicants with low incomes and those who have yet to receive any compensation. The funds are intended to aid individuals and non-profit agencies statewide that were directly impacted by this weather event. Although Aroostook and Penobscot counties were hardest hit by the storm, funding is available to persons and non-profits in any county in Maine impacted by the event.
The funds are intended to address home repair, reimbursement for documented out-of-pocket expenses, health services (including mental health services), as well as repair, renovation, and/or construction of health care and mental health facilities, child care centers and other social service facilities affected by this natural disaster.
Maine Community Action Association will address the needs statewide by working through the 10 Community Action Programs that comprise MCAA.
In Aroostook County, contact the local Community Action Program: Susan Deschene, 764-3721, sdeschene@acap-me.org; or Roy Michaud, 834-5135, rmichaud@acap-me.org.
