Making a sensational slide tackle is Washburn’s Meghan Saucier, right, as she boots the ball away from Ashland’s Macie Pelkey during Friday’s girls soccer game in Washburn. The Beavers lost 1-0.

The following is a recap of the past week’s games.
Easton 3, Limestone-MSSM 2 — At Limestone Monday, the Bears’ Carla Halverson booted three goals to lift Easton to the road win over Limestone-MSSM. Meghan Frank added an assist for Easton (4-3-1).
Bethany Berry and Jasmine Cote each had one goal for the Eagles (1-3-1).
Taylor Burtt had 20 saves on 23 shots for Easton, while Audra Kirk stopped 10 of 14 shots for the Eagles.
Fort Kent 1, Caribou 0 — At Fort Kent Friday, Katie Nadeau scored an unassisted goal with 23 minutes left in the first half to lead the Warriors (3-0) over Caribou (1-1). Carissa Pelletier stopped 13 of 16 shots for the Warriors, while Brittany Doak made 19 saves on 23 shots for the Vikings.
“We didn’t play as well as we’ve been playing in the game,” Caribou coach Todd Albert said. “I was surprised that we were unable to score. Fort Kent played hard and we need to play harder. Brittany Doak was very solid in goal and she kept us in the game. We hope to use the loss as a way of getting better because we still have 12 games left to play.”
Ashland 1, Washburn 0 — At Washburn Friday, the Hornets remained perfect on the young season with a shutout victory over Washburn. Kayla Cote tallied the lone goal, her second on the season, off a pass from Jessica Jimmo with 22:40 remaining in the first half.
Taylor Baker had eight saves on 14 shots for Ashland (2-0), while sisters Meghan and Rayah Saucier combined for  10 saves on 14 shots for Washburn (0-2-3).
Ashland suffered a blow to its squad early in Friday’s game when stopper Whitney Donovan took a hit to the head and was unable to return.
“We didn’t want to take any chances with Whitney,” Ashland coach Peter Belskis said. “We had to make some adjustments to her loss and it took us out of our game for a little bit. Washburn is a scrappy team, so we had to take advantage of the opportunities when he got them.”
Washburn also had to deal with a short bench as the Beavers had just one player in reserve due to injuries in previous games. Washburn coach Marcie Barbarula said she was not sure when or if she would be back to full strength this season.
“We did our best to keep rotating the girls in and out,” Barbarula said. “We switched the positions up as well to give the girls some breaks.”
Scoring has been somewhat of a problem for Washburn of late. In their past five games, the Beavers have mustered just one goal.

Van Buren 2, Washburn 0 — At Van Buren Wednesday, Crusader Shawna LaPointe scored the first goal assisted by Kristi Learnard. Haley Lizotte scored the second Crusader goal assisted by Chantal Rioux. That proved to be all the scoring Van Buren would need for the shutout win.
Ashlie Wilson had six saves on eight shots for Van Buren, while Washburn’s Meghan and Rayah Saucier combined for 12 saves on 18 shots.
Easton 2, Limestone/MSSM 1 — At Easton Tuesday, neither team was able to break the scoring ice in the first half, resulting in a scoreless stalemate at the break. All that changed in the second half, as Easton took a 2-0 lead on goals by Halvorson and Frank. Halvorson’s goal was assisted by Babineau.
Victoria St. Pierre scored with 12 minutes remaining for the Eagles, but it was not enough as Easton emerged victorious. Burtt made 12 saves on 17 shots for the Bears.
