Guests of Mr. and Mrs Clayton Varney over the Labor Day weekend were his son, Calvin of Concord, N.H. and grandson and wife, Nickie and Cary Varney, with their two children. They were all at the Varney cottage on Mattaw-amkeag Lake. The weather really cooperated and everyone had a grand time. Calvin returned to New Hampshire on Wednesday and Nickie and Cary and children have returned home to Winterport.
Joyce and Diane have once again been in Island Falls, staying at the Curry homestead for a few days. They have now returned home to Portland, but promise to return again soon.
Mr. and Mrs Alan Chamberlain and Mrs. Pauline Robbins have returned home to West Point, Va., after enjoying their stay at the Chamberlain cottage on Lower Mattawamkeag Lake. They plan to return sometime in October to close the camp for winter.
Have had fun recently watching the doe and her two fawns playing in my large back yard. The fawns are really quite big, but they still have their spots. Plan to leave out some old bread for them soon. And had to pick some of the ripest tomatoes the other day as the big crows have taken a liking for them. Found two or three of them that the crows had sampled and finished them off myself. And I have finally dug the last few hills of potatoes and got a very nice crop, which I shall eventually store in my cellar. I find that even a small farmer has a lot of work to do, but the results are nice .
