Student in grades three through eight started taking the New England Common Assessment on Tuesday.  The Maine Department of Education decided last year to replace the MEA (Maine Educational Assessment) with the NECAP.  Our state hopes to save $1 million by changing to the NECAP, which is also aligned to the Maine Learning Results. Students will complete the NECAP by Oct. 29th.
In May, fifth- and eighth-graders will take the science portion of the MEA because NECAP does not provide a science test for students.
Our middle school students and fourth-graders spent a day at the corn maze on Goughan’s farm in Caribou. This year’s corn maze design was that of the state of Maine. The fourth-graders culminated their Maine unit with the visit to the corn maze.
Last Friday, our K-5 students  enjoyed a Food Play production sponsored by Hannaford. The presentation focused on staying fit and eating well. We would like to thank Danette Ellis who coordinated the event. We  remind parents that with cold weather approaching students will need to dress warmer which would include hats, mittens or gloves, and heavier jackets.
The serum for the students’ seasonal flu shots has not yet arrived.  When we are ready for the student flu shot clinic, we will send information home. This week is bus drivers’ week, so if you would like to something nice for your bus driver such as writing a note or drawing a picture, I am sure they would love it.  We all appreciate the job they do.
Please mark your calendars for the Title I school-wide dinner which will be held on Oct. 29.  It’s free to the public, but you must call Mrs. Foster at 532-9228 by Monday, Oct. 26 to let her know you plan to attend the dinner.
We would like to thank our soccer teams for representing us well this season.  We are proud of you.
Students in grades seven and eight who would like to play basketball are encouraged to have a physical form completed and on file in the nurse’s office by Nov. 2. Also, we would like to remind students they need to pass all classes in order to play on the team.
Basketball game schedules are now posted on our new Web site at msad70.org.
