Legion discusses Christmas events
The American Legion Post 187 held its meeting on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. Those in attendance were James Ireland, Roland Michaud, Bernard Hussey, Louey Copeland, Clair Carter, Joy Ferris and Doug Henderson.
The meeting came to order with discussion about the hunter’s breakfast. It was a big success where the group served over 80 people with the help of 11 volunteers. Lots of fun was had by all. Thank you to everyone.
There was discussion of how often dues are paid. (once yearly) There was talk of the Legion Hall. This is still open for discussion until the new year. It was decided to have a Christmas social at the next scheduled meeting on Monday, Dec. 14, at 6:30 p.m. Potluck dinner (no gifts and the Ladies Auxiliary are invited). Invitations will be sent.
There was some discussion about Christmas wreaths for the cemeteries. This is still open. There will be an informal meeting on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m. for the final preparation of the Christmas social. The meeting was adjourned at 8 p.m.
Wedding bells
Congratulations to Jessica Ferris on her marriage. She was married to Chad Miller on Nov. 5, 2009 at Seymour Johnson AFB in North Carolina. That is where they are both stationed. Jessica is the daughter of Wayne and Joy Ferris of Easton.
New addition
Congratulations also goes to Matthew Ferris and Alissa Pinkas on the birth of their son, Taylor Matthew Ferris. Taylor was born on Nov. 5, 2009 weighing 5 lb. 9 oz. and he was only 18 inches long. He was two weeks early. Guess he wanted to celebrate each year with his aunt Jessica. Both Taylor and mom are doing fine in Denver, Co. Grandparents are Wayne and Joy Ferris of Easton and Carlton and Sonya Craig of Mars Hill.
Birthdays/anniversaries
On Nov. 18, Carrie Darr, Jon Jeffers, Bobbie Nichols, Nichole King, Alexis Pelkey, Denise Green, Kendra Ireland, Ryan Carmer and Reta Flewelling all have birthdays. Happy birthday to you all. On Nov. 19th Kassandra Grass, Phyllis Nadeau, Hollie Brewer-Cushman and Ethan Richardson will celebrate their birthdays. Caleb Darr, Leonna King, Linda Robbins and Alecia DeCruz all have a birthday on Nov. 20. Justin Perry, Bobbi Leach and Cathy Osgood all have a birthday on Nov. 22. Also on Nov. 22nd Leanna and Paul Demerchant have an anniversary. Happy anniversary to you both. Carolee Flewelling, Brian Holmes, Josh Horton and Tim MacFarline all have a birthday on Nov. 23. Blessings to you all on your special day.
Karate program
The Tai Gi Shin Dojo of Caribou will be offering a karate program for the Easton Recreation Department. The program will consist of many specific aspects of the martial arts. The series will run four weeks after school on Mondays, from Nov. 30 through Dec. 21, directly after school until 3:45 p.m. for beginners. The advanced class will run from 3:50 until 4:35 p.m. The cost is $40. All class fees must be paid in full before Monday, Nov. 30, unless other arrangements have been made.
Rec schedule
Wednesday, Nov. 18 — Junior activities (for ages 2 and older) at the hall from 9:30-11 a.m. Kindergarten swim lessons. Transportation departs at 1 p.m. and will return at 2:30 p.m. Beginners’ gymnastic class from 3-3:45 p.m. in the Easton High School gym. Advanced beginners’ gymnastics class from 3:45-4:45 p.m. in the Easton High School gym.
Thursday, Nov. 19 — Seniors’ wreath and centerpiece making at the Francis Malcolm Science Center. The group will meet at the Center at 10 a.m. There is no fee for this program. Movie after school from 2:45-4:15 p.m. at the hall. Open to grades 1 and up. Yoga class (for adults) from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. in the elementary school gym. The cost is $25 for six weeks of classes.
Friday, Nov. 20 — Junior activities (for ages 2 and older) at the hall from 9:30-11 a.m. Seniors’ Game Day in the recreation room at the manor starting at 11:15 a.m. Please bring a bag lunch.
Monday, Nov. 23 — Junior activities at the hall from 9:30-11 a.m. (Make-up for no program on 11/25.) Seniors’ nutrition program at 11 a.m. in the recreation room at the manor. The cost is $2. Holiday cooking with Chris Finnemore from 2:45-4:15 p.m. at the hall. The cost is $2.
Tuesday, Nov. 24 — Bowling field trip (early school release) departs from the elementary school at 12:15 p.m. and will return to the hall at 2:45 p.m. The cost is $5. Concessions will be available.
