To the editor:
As most everyone knows, we had one of our largest and longest structure fires in recent years this past Friday night, Nov. 13. and we at the Presque Isle Fire Department want to extend our appreciation to everyone (neighboring fire departments, businesses, and even individuals) who assisted us in some way with this dangerous fire for about a 3- or 4-day period. We want to thank our full-time staff (including those that were able to come in while off duty), the paid-call members, the Presque Isle Police Department, the staff of Crown Ambulance, as well as fire departments from Easton, Mars Hill, Fort Fairfield, Limestone, Ashland, Caribou, Mapleton and Washburn. Even our Presque Isle Public Works Department and Steve Freeman from the P.I. Water District were called in for some assistance. It was a concerted effort by all for the duration of this event and we are more than thankful for everyone working as a cohesive unit in battling this blaze.
A lot of businesses came forward with generous donations of food and beverages, which assisted immensely in getting our crews nourished so they could get back on the fire scene refreshed and ready to go again. Some of the businesses we wish to thank are the Star City IGA, Dead River’s Food Trend, Dunkin’ Donuts, the Sandwich Shop, Pizza Hut, and Circle K. We also are indebted to our fire departments’ Ladies Auxiliary, who came in and made a couple of meals for the firefighters. There may have been more who assisted us, that I am unaware of and a big “thank you” to you as well!
It is great to know that a lot of people and organizations can come together with a common goal and have a very successful outcome with no injuries incurred. Thanks to all!
