ImageImage    Mapleton – Guylia “Becky” Kennard, 91, passed away Monday, December 7, 2009, in Westfield, Maine with her son, Wayne at her side. She was born in Mapleton, August 29, 1918. She was the daughter of Perley and Etta (Porter) Bull.
She grew up on the family farm on the corner of State and Hughes Road in Mapleton. She graduated from Mapleton High School. She moved to Chicago in 1957 to live with her daughter and be close to her grandchildren. She returned to Maine in 2002. Guylia was a “story teller”. She loved to talk about the “Old Days”, taking the horse and buggy to Presque Isle with her parents to spend the day and visiting family and friends along the way. A pony, named “Rusty” given to her by her Dad was a prized possession. She loved telling stories of riding her pony to school each day. She worked for many years at Taterstate Frozen Foods in Washburn. Her co-workers best remember her riding her Harley Davidson motorcycle to and from work. Guylia worked many years in Chicago as a Private Duty Nurse, and eventually retired as a fork lift operator at Bally’s Electronics Assembly Plant in Chicago. To the end, Becky maintained her dry, witty, sarcastic sense of humor. Fellow residents of Southern Acres Residential Facility in Westfield smile as they tell stories of Becky—“Telling It Like It Is”.
She is survived by three sons, Walter “Dickey” Kennard Jr. and his wife Marie of Melrose Park,Ill., Theodore and Judy Kennard of Chatsworth, Georgia and Wayne and Judy Kennard of Mapleton; a sister-in-law, Jane Kennard of  Caribou; many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Delores Cullata of Chicago in 2006.
Graveside services will be held at Castle Hill Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Guylia’s memory may be made to the Central Aroostook Humane Society, 26 Cross St., Presque Isle, ME 04769. Arrangements are in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.duncan-graves.com.
