MARS HILL – Anne M. McQuade 73, died January 21, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. She was born August 31, 1936, in Hartland, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Lorne and Gladys (Brewer) Long.
Anne graduated from the University of New Brunswick Business College. She was first employed by the Maine Potato Commission in Presque Isle as a bookkeeper. She later worked many years with her husband, Alton and four sons in the family business, A.E. McQuade & Sons Construction Inc. Anne along with Alton, co-founded the Mars Hill Country Club, where she spent many enjoyable hours either keeping the books or out on the course playing.
She particularly enjoyed playing with her close friends in the community. In her earlier years, Anne spent her time snowmobiling with her family and attending her boys’ hockey games. Most recently, “Nana” mostly looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband of Mars Hill, Anne is survived by four sons and their wives, Blake and Tina McQuade of Houlton, Dana & Alice McQuade, Brian and Allyson McQuade and Ross and Anne McQuade all of Mars Hill; grandchildren, Andrew, Tory, BJ, Andrea, Travis, Alyssa, Ben, Shane, Nicole, Tiffany, Crystal and Matthew; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Long of Hartland and Richard Long of Mars Hill; and a sister, Laurine Hallett of Arizona. She was predeceased by a sister, Charlene Long.
Funeral services were conducted 2:30 p.m. Sunday, at the Old Fashion Revival Center in Blaine, with Rev. Mark Carter officiating.
