To the editor:
With the imminent lack of monetary funds on the horizon, an increase in property taxes in Caribou is unacceptable. Citizens of Caribou have always supported and also went far beyond what was really needed to provide for the health and well being of our community, but it is now time to roll back all the past policies by taking a timeout from increasing property taxes and prioritizing only what this community needs to survive the impending crisis. Believe me, things haven’t hit bottom yet contrary to what the heads of state in Washington are telling us right now. Yes, things like recreation, sports and health programs and facilities of support for these entities are commendable but have gone far beyond our ability for further support without a firm commitment to look into the dynamics of the situation and decide who should pay. Is it the ultimate users or the citzenry overall who should be forced to pay and lower their standard of living because of it. Remember not all the citizens of this community use and need these facilities or even want them. Locals have too long depended on state and federal governments to help provide funding with no stability for ongoing support for such programs leaving the local general public to fend for themselves. These gifts did not have the benefit of good faith and understanding of future implications and amounts to just another welfare system gone bad. Well folks, the time has come and the state and federal government can’t pick up the tab anymore for these Cadillac programs. The secret is now out that everything is taxed to death, even the air we breathe. How many more ways is there to crucify all for the benefit of a few like big federal local and state governments and all their supporting employees.
Many years ago the people in this country were tormented with cruel high taxes from England. We had a rebellion such as the world had never seen before and it was justified. What happened next was the creation of the greatest country and economy of the world. Well folks the cruelty of high taxes are back and our great county is imploding from within, creating a system of wealth for the benefit of a few. Is this what our ancestors fought and died for to bless us with justice, freedom and liberty for all. I think not, but our government is starting to resemble the old fashioned style of European government we broke away from. Our president has taken the stance of a king, the Senate and the House of Representatives are the lords, local official are the enforcers and we, the citizens, have been demoted to serfdom. If anyone doesn’t know what that means, it is if this present criminal activity by our elected officials is allowed to be ongoing, poverty is our future for us serfs and we will never be privy to the freedom of the past that we cherished and held so dear.
Wake up all you good citizens and join in the movement to get rid of all the rascals that are in power and take back our liberty and apply a common sense approach to our future. Let’s take this bold, dramatic and commendable stance for the benefit and well being of our future generations to provide them the protection from the tyrants we now have in leadership. We all have to rise up and be counted.
