Vikings sweep home meet

    PRESQUE ISLE – Nordic skiers took to the trails Friday at the Nordic Heritage Center Friday in very cold weather, with Fort Kent, Caribou and Presque Isle all making the trip in a meet hosted by Fort Fairfield.

    In the girls race, Caribou totaled 20 points to defeat Fort Kent by six. Fort Fairfield took third with 47 points and Presque Isle ended up with 50 points.
    Laura Collins of the Vikes was the meet runner-up to Fort Kent’s Gabby Naranja. Her time of 20 minutes, 31.1 seconds was 28.9 seconds behind Naranja on the five-kilometer course.
    Meredith Sleeper placed fourth (21:56.7), Nicole Madore fifth (22:15.5), Chelsea Bard seventh (23:02.2), Olivia Sleeper ninth (23:09.7) and Ginger Kieffer 10th (23:17.1) for Caribou.
    Allisa Randolph took the 11th spot (23:27.3) and Mackenzie Belyea, Nicole Cyr and Samantha Murchison were 14th, 15th and 16th, respectively, for the Vikes.
    Fort Fairfield was led by Veronica Plourde, who was eighth in 23:07.3. Victoria Plourde of the Tigers was 13th in 23:49.5.
    The Caribou boys featured the top six skiers to score a perfect 10 in the competition. Tim Freme came in first in 17:20.1. Behind him were Vikings Jared Sleeper (17:51.5), Kjetil Rossignol (18:33.3), Kevin Strid (18:57.2), Ezra Duplissie-Cyr (19:01.2) and Benjamin Wyman (19:31.3).
    Matt Coty of Caribou also placed among the top-10 overall, ending up ninth in 20:33.7. Marc Sturzl was 12th, Dylan Cyr 13th and Charm Karunasiri 14th in the final standings for the Vikings.
    Presque Isle placed second with 34 points. Fort Kent and Fort Fairfield did not have the required number of skiers to figure in the team results.
    Isaac Wortman was the Tigers’ top performer on the day. He was 17th in 24:50.4.
