The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center.
The special speaker was Houlton Rotarian Torrey Sylvester. Torrey lived in Mars Hill and attended school through grade 5, when his family moved to Houlton. He said he remembered learning to ski when the ski slope was on the back side of the mountain.
He showed slides and spoke about the trip he and his wife Jennifer took to Egypt in the fall of 2009. They spent five days in Cairo and 12 days on a Nile River cruise. They saw the pyramids and Sphinx in the Valley of the Kings. They also went to the new library in the city of Alexandria and saw a fort that was built from the stones of the lighthouse that was one of the ancient wonders of the world. They also saw the Aswan Dam. Torrey took over 500 pictures of what he referred to as this wonderful “trip of a lifetime.”
