Those attending the annual Department of Maine VFW Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen Awards Banquet held in Waterville included Brandon A. McDonald, Jeanette Stairs, president of the DistrictOone Department of Maine VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Jenny K. Chapman. McDonald, who placed second in the annual Voice of Democracy Essay Contest with the topic, “Does America Still Have Heroes,” is a senior at the Van Buren District High School. Chapman is a seventh-grade student at Caribou Middle School. The Lister-Knowlton VFW Post 9389 and its Ladies Auxiliary sponsored both students.
