MERRILL – Bernard John Phelps Sr., 78, died Feb. 15, 2010, in Houlton. He was born Aug. 11, 1931, in Rockland the son of John and Thelma Phelps.
    He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in Germany. He is survived by his wife, Eugania Russel Phelps of Merrill; his children, Bernard Jr. and Desiree Phelps of Island Falls, Brenda Wallace  of Portland, Marjorie and Russell Beal of Calais, Anthony and Heather Phelps of Princeton, Peggy and Donald Russell of Orlando and Michael and Judy Phelps of Perry; step-children, Joel A. Hamm of Anson, Lionel and Eva Hamm and Danielle Parker of Oakfield; fourteen grand-children and several great -grand-children. He was pre-deceased by his step-father, mother and two sisters.
    A graveside service will be held in the spring in the Merrill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers  donations may be made in Bernard's memory care of Bowers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 579, Houlton, Me. 04730.
