Business tax prep class being offered

PRESQUE ISLE – Are you scrambling to organize your shoebox of receipts and trying to establish a better system for keeping track of your business income and expenses? Do you have a “side business” but are unsure how to report your income and deduct your business expenses?

Women, Work & Community’s Easy Steps for Business Tax Prep workshop is designed for individuals with business income to report, whether they plan to do their own taxes or work with a professional tax preparer. This is an opportunity to learn about what’s needed to prepare taxes, get the tools for organizing financial records, feel confident and ready for tax season.
Three workshops have been scheduled in Aroostook County. Sessions will be held at the Houlton Higher Education Center Tuesday, March 30 from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at the University of Maine at Fort Kent Thursday, April 1 from 3-5:30 p.m., and at Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle Friday, April 2 from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
“Recordkeeping for your business does not need to be a mystery or a mess. This workshop will help you get organized and stay on top of your business finances, at tax time and all the time,” said Erica Quin-Easter, microenterprise coordinator for WWC in Aroostook  and the trainer for the class.
Easy Steps for Business Tax Prep is open to women, men, and all entrepreneurs who have business income to report. Pre-registration is required, and there is no fee for the training. The class is funded in part through a grant award with the U.S. Small Business Administration. FMI or to register for the workshop in your region, contact  764-0050 or erica.quineaster@maine.edu.
