Six vie for 2010 Little Miss Caribou crown

    The 2010 Little Miss Caribou Pageant, sponsored for the 35th year by the Lister/Knowlton VFW Auxiliary was held Sunday afternoon, March 28 at the Caribou Performing Arts Center. Six young ladies with their eyes set upon the Little Miss Crown, provided an afternoon of fashion and entertainment.

    Following the introduction of the Mistress of Ceremonies, Sandi Bouchard, the contestants appeared onstage together as they danced in an opening number, “Second Star to the Right,” choreographed by Abby and Paige Small.
    Prior to the contestants taking the stage for their fashion walk, judges for the afternoon affair and visiting queens were introduced. Judges included: Andrea Perreault, Van Buren; Sue Powers, Mapleton; and Pam Willette, Presque Isle.
    Special entertainment was provided by Victoria Keaton, Jr. Miss Caribou 2010; Hannah Hebert, Miss Teen Caribou and Samantha Fortin, Miss Pre-Teen Caribou. Kyra Thibeault, Little Miss Caribou 2009, presented a vocal selection, “Under the Sea.”     
    During the talent portion of the pageant contestants provided their audience with a variety of entertainment including: Amber Moir presenting a jazz dance to the song, “I Move On”; Destiny  Soucie who sang a vocal selection, “This is Me”; and Brooke Haney, playing a piano selection, “Salsa Blues.”
    Other talent presentations included: Jorja Bugbee’s lyrical ballet routine to “A Beautiful Day”; Edie Shea’s vocal selection, “Brother for Sale”; and Cora Crandall performing the song, “Loves Me Like  Rock.”
     The six contestants participated in the gown walk just prior to the farewell walk and speech from 2009 Little Miss Caribou Kyra Thibeault. Following Thibeault’s farewell, each of the contestants and the previously crowned Caribou royalty took part in a gown promenade to the song, “A Dream is a Wish,” sung by Mistress of Ceremonies Bouchard.
    Named Little Miss Caribou 2010 was Amber Dawn Moir, the 8-year-old daughter of Alan and Stacy Moir. The newly crowned Little Miss was also named Miss Congeniality by her co-contestants and was deemed winner of the interview portion of the pageant.
    Brooke Haney, the 9-year-old daughter of Troy and Jennifer Haney was named first-runner-up to the Little Miss title.
    Contestants achieving the top three spots for ticket sales were Moir, Haney and Edie Shea respectively.
    Cheryl Bossie, pageant director, after welcoming the audience to the annual event, announced that over the past 35 years more than $75,000 in proceeds from the Little Miss Caribou pageants have gone to the organization’s Cancer Aid and Research Program.
