Phishing attack detected

    A phishing attack has been detected against Machias Savings Bank. The attackers are sending e-mails, text messages, and placing automated calls to home and business phones.
    This attack is an attempt to gather personal information. All Machias Savings Bank personnel are on the highest alert safeguarding consumer information and our system has not been breached.
    “Phishing” is the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.
    Machias Savings Bank did not send the email or text message and does not place automated calls. By policy, Machias Savings Bank will never ask for personal information, passwords, or account numbers, or send an email or text message with a link to a web site. The email or text message consumers may have received was a phishing email. Machias Savings Bank reminds consumers not to click on the link or provide any information.
