PRESQUE ISLE — Police are investigating an armed robbery that took place at the Budget Traveler during the early morning hours of Saturday, April 3.
“At approximately 3 a.m., the Presque Isle Police Department received a 9-1-1 call from the night clerk at the Budget Traveler reporting he’d just been robbed at gunpoint,” said Sgt. Mark Barnes, investigating officer, PIPD.
According to Barnes, the clerk indicated that two men were involved.
“He said the two men were dressed all in black and were wearing ski mask. The clerk indicated the men entered the lobby of the hotel and pointed a gun at him and demanded all of the money in the register,” said Barnes.
The perpetrators then ran off with an undisclosed amount of cash from the business. Police were then contacted and responded to the scene. Barnes received assistance from Officers Peter Johnson and Kevin Reed, both of the PIPD; Trooper Dan Deschaine, Maine State Police; as well as a U.S. Border Patrol agent.
“We searched the area but were unable to locate the two suspects. The PIPD’s bloodhound, Hunter, and his handler, Officer Kevin Schumacher, were called in for a track,” said Barnes.
Barnes said evidence was collected at the scene and the investigation remains open. Anyone with information on this crime can contact Barnes at the PIPD at 764-4476.
