PRESQUE ISLE – The 2010 Aroostook Cup Cross-Country race series that started with a brisk and cold day in January this year wrapped up with a sunny day more reminiscent of May in the County than March.
More than 50 club and community members came out for the annual Himie Towle Memorial XC Ski Frolic March 14 at the Nordic Heritage Center. Participants in the frolic enjoyed freestyle cross-country races for all ages and abilities. The main event of the afternoon was a 7.5-kilometer race around a beautiful course, taking skiers up and down the trails surrounding the main lodge and stadium.
In the men’s division, Seth Hubbard of the Nordic Heritage Sport Club took first in 21 minutes, 56 seconds, while Sarah Dominick of Stockholm’s Snowy Mountain Ski Club took the win in the women’s division in 25:57.
Other division winners were: 13-15 girls, Melissa McKenney; 13-15 boys, Ryan Washington; 16-19 female, Grace Boutot; 16-19 male, Derek Rowe; 20-29 female, Justine Cyr; 20-29 male, Hubbard; 30-39 female, Dominick; 30-39 male, Will Sweetser; 40-49 female, Patricia Hebert; 40-49 male, Jeff Dubis; 50-59 female, Bonnie Cyr; 50-59 male, Paul Cyr; 60-69 male, Robert Sprague; 70 and older male, Norman Page.
Kids race division winners were 8 and under girls, Leah Ruck; 9-10 girls, Dixie Grady; 9-10 boys, Max Bartley; 11-12 boys, Lance McKenney.
