America is turning its back on Israel

To the editor:
I am extremely troubled by the growing anti-Semitism rearing its ugly head not just in other countries, but worse of all, in the United States. I believe there are two main reasons for this, in addition to the open hostility that has been shown by the Obama Administration. First is a lack of knowledge of historical facts of the Middle East, and second, the attitude of many Americans when it comes to the Bible.
Palestine was never a “real” country — Israel was given that name by the Romans, who ruled over the Jews and wanted to wipe out any trace of them and Israel, and so gave Israel a name after one of their most mortal enemies, the Philistines, from whence “Palestine” came to be. Many do not know that the Balfour Agreement prior to World War II actually gave the Jews much more territory than they were given in 1948, and more than they have now. It was the Arab countries who pressured the Arab people living there to flee in 1948, who put them into “refuge camps” and who have kept them there in an effort to give a “cause” against Israel. No Islamic country would agree to make them citizens of their countries. This, despite the fact that the major portion of Israel was once a part of Jordan, yet Jordan still today refuses to make them citizens of their country. No “refugees”, no cause, plain and simple.
Despite all the concessions Israel has made regarding the “land for peace” they have always been given a war in return. Anyone can look up the wars that started in 1948 with Israel’s birth, followed by the same in 1956, 1967, 1973, 1981, and continuing right up to the Intafata and attacks by Hezbollah and Hamas, both of whom openly admit that they will never accept Israel’s very existence.
How many know of and understand the Islamic principle “Hudna”? It is that “peace” is not as we in the West think of it. Peace with your “enemy” is only a cease-fire, and maintained only when the enemy has an advantage at that time, and any agreement made must be broken as soon as the upper-hand and advantage turns to Islam. Anyone can look this up.
Certain “religious” systems bear a part of the blame because of their revisionism, known as “replacement theology”; that is that the “church” has replaced Israel. If one buys into this, then in effect one is saying that God is a liar and does not keep his promises. This is a dangerous error, in that in numerous places in both the Old and New Testament, God reaffirms that His promises to Israel will be kept, and the reasons and explanation for this is clearly stated in the bible, but one must take the time to read the book!
The treatment being given to Israel by the current administration is very similar to the treatment given Jesus Christ by Judas, betrayal of a friend. The pressure and disrespect given to Israel has reached an all-time back-stabbing height.
“I will bless them who bless you, and curse them who curse you” — this is what God said regarding Israel. We will do well to remember this.
