ImagePRESQUE ISLE – Leopold Charette, 78, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at the Maine Veterans Home in Caribou, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
    Leopold was born may 29, 1931, in Fort Kent, the son of Henry and Julie (Dufour) Charette. He grew up in Fort Kent attending local schools, and later served in the U.S. Army.
    He worked as a mechanic for several years, mostly with Freeman Motors where he was employed for thirty-five years.
    Leopold loved to play Bingo, work on puzzles, play poker, and listen to French Canadian Country Western Music. His most enjoyable moments were when he was with his family enjoying each other’s company.
    He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-three years, Jeannine Charette of Presque Isle; two daughters, Leola Bouchard and her husband Clovis of St. Francis, N.B., Diane Doustou and her husband Ron of Presque Isle; a sister, Leona Bard of Broadbook, CT; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
    In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Dana in May of 2009, as well as several brothers and sisters.
    Friends called 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 23, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday,at St. Mary’s Catholic church, with the Rev. Ray Morency celebrant. A committal with military honors took place at St. Mary’s North Main St. Catholic Cemetery, Presque Isle. A reception was held following the committal at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Those who wish may make donations in Leopold’s memory to the American Cancer Society New England Division, Inc., One Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME  04086. Arrangements in care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home.  Condolences may be expressed at www.duncan-graves.com.
