Club’s baseball play a big hit
WASHBURN NEWS

The Washburn Rotary club presented their second annual Dinner Theatre Mystery and it was attended by a good crowd along with lots of “stars.” The play was entitled “Death on the Mound” and featured a theme of two ball teams, the Boston Odd Sox and the Chicago Cheeky Chicks. One of the members of the two teams would commit murder before the evening was over, doing in, by means of poison, the very unlikable pitcher for the Cheeky Cheeks, Petticoat Peterson, aka Christie Cochran.
Players for the Odd Sox included: Righty Matthews (Larry Harrison), Shoey Jacobs (Bruce Blakney), Double-Take Edwards (Tom Drew), Sleepy Joe (Sean Diette) Doorbell Dunstan (Kermit Fuller) and Go Go Grimblat (Stacey Skinner). The all-girl Cheeky Chicks players were: Peachy Cream (Sarah Diette), Moldy Cheese (Debbie Rideout), Bouncy Betty (Sue Brown), Lippy Lovell (Julie Doody), Clumsy Carol (Pam Wilcox), Slammit Suzie (Heidi Thompson) and Petticoat Peterson (Christie Cochran). Nathan Scott, aka A.K. Seltzer, portrayed the game announcer; Marcie Barbarula was Dr. Ducky, medical reporter; Stuart Turner acted as the family attorney; and Keith Brown, aka Arnie Ezekiel, was the local police officer. One interesting note is that officer Keith Brown wore the authentic Washburn Police badge Number 8 that belonged to his grandfather, Officer Archie Manzer.
By the end of the play it was determined the dastardly deed was done by none other than Doorbell Dunstan, aka Kermit Fuller!
Rotarians that were not on stage but were of great assistance during the event were: Barb Turner, Charlotte Griffin, Mike Umphrey, Peggy Bugbee, Andy White and Mike McIntosh. Family and friends of Rotarians and actors who also helped with the evening’s duties were: Randy Thompson, Taylor Skinner, Quintin Thompson, Don Wilcox and Parker Thompson.
The guests were also treated to a great supper featuring salad, a wonderful serving of chicken or ham, along with potatoes and veggies and a choice of pie. Much thanks goes to cooks Jody Dickinson and Stina Snyder, with help from Daren Churchill. There were also several items sold during the silent auction. The Washburn Rotary appreciates all the help and notes that the proceeds from this activity go towards WDHS scholarships and playground equipment to be placed at the Mill Pond.
