The spring season began with a bang this past week as the majority of schools opened the 2010 campaign.
The following is a recap of games played through Monday.

Katahdin 13, Fort Fairfield 8 — At Stacyville Monday, Dani-Beth Cyr doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs to lift Katahdin over Fort Fairfield.         Sarah Hebert pitched for Fort Fairfield (0-1), allowing 13 runs on 16 hits and six walks, with one strikeout. Mya Smallwood pitched the win for Katahdin, yielding eight runs on seven hits, one hit batter and 13 walks, with six strikeouts.
For the Tigers, Sarah Hebert had four hits and scored two runs, while Courtney Churchill had two hits; Sydney Churchill, hit, run; Kelsey Turner, two runs; and Amanda Hotham, Kellyn McGillan and Danielle Tracy each scored one run.
For Katahdin, Megan Merry had four hits and scored two runs. Mariah Williams added two hits and two runs.
“Fort had extremely strong defense throughout much of the game, allowing only one of the three bunt attempts and keeping the score tied at 1-1 for much of the game,” Tiger coach Jamie Selfridge said. “Katahdin came on strong both in the fifth and seventh innings to take a lead. Fort also had successful fifth and seventh innings but it was not enough to seal  a win.”
Old Town 6, Presque Isle 1 — At Old Town Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader, Presque Isle’s Krista Coffin pitched the loss as she gave up six runs on 10 hits, six walks and four wild pitches, with seven strikeouts. Old Town hurler Hannah Morin twirled the win as she allowed just one run on six hits, three walks and one wild pitch, with seven strikeouts.
Coffin and Courtney Colligan led the Wildcats at the plate with two singles each. Jessie Theriault drove in a run.  For Old Town, Amy Singer had three hits.
The Wildcats committed three errors, while Old Town had one.
Old Town 12, Presque Isle 4 — In the second game of the doubleheader, the Wildcats produced more offense, but so too did Old Town, resulting in a Presque Isle loss. Coffin led the Wildcats offensively with two singles and an RBI, while Kayla Richards added a two-run triple.
Morin (triple and single) and Amy Cosser (triple) led Old Town at the plate.
The Wildcats sent two hurlers to the pitching circle. Alecia Palmer tossed three innings, allowing four hits, one walk and one hit batter, with two strikeouts. Coffin threw the final three innings, yielding eight hits, five walks and two hit batters, with one strikeout.
“Old Town played very well,” Presque Isle coach Alan Curtis said. “Their pitchers were effective and managed to get out of trouble. Their fielding was solid. We had runners in scoring position in every inning, except the 7th in the first game, but could not come up with the timely hit.”
