PRESQUE ISLE — United Way of Aroostook volunteers are preparing for the organization’s Annual Meeting and awards presentation, which will be held on Wednesday, May 5.
“The event is being held at the Northeastland Hotel in Presque Isle, beginning at 11:30 a.m. and concluding at 1 p.m. The annual meeting will consist of a buffet luncheon followed by a brief business meeting,” said Claudia Stevens, UWA executive director.
There will also be an election of officers and board members at the meeting, said Stevens.
Several awards will be presented and volunteers and businesses will be recognized for their contributions to the UWA.
“Awards will be given to the top 12 campaigns, as well as an Excellence Award. In addition, an award will be given to a United Way agency who has had an outstanding workplace campaign. The United Way will also be recognizing volunteers and businesses for their support of the UWA,” said Stevens.
The UWA will be announcing awards to agencies that have applied and been approved for UWA funding at the meeting.
“The agencies that will be awarded United Way funds support programs throughout Aroostook County that help the neediest people. The total amount of the award to be given to the agencies will be over $264,000,” said Stevens. “In addition to that, the United Way has supported 2-1-1 Maine, the Dress A Child Program, Santa’s Sleigh Project, fuel assistance, food and other non-United Way agency designations for a total contribution of over $410,000.”
The cost of the luncheon will be $15 per person. Anyone interested in attending the United Way Annual Meeting should contact 764-5197.
